NPR has posted an except of John Burdett's novel Bangkok 8. I haven't read it yet, but if it's half as good as his earlier novel in the same series Bangkok Tattoo, it'll be good. The books are police novels set in modern Thailand. The protaganist is the euphoniously-named Sonchai Jitpleecheep, half-Thai and half-American detective in the City of Angels (Bangkok, don't you know?) police force. The dialogue is particularly good, I think.--David E
