Support Your Local Poets

Did you know that both St Paul and Duluth have designated poets laureate? On January 27, you can hear them both at Magers and Quinn. (Minneapolis doesn't have a poet laureate. Don't get David U started...)

Carol Connolly is poet laureate of St. Paul. In conjunction with SASE, Carol runs monthly readings at the University Club and is a regular columnist for Law and Politics Minnesota. She is the author of the much praised and much reprinted poetry collection Payments Due.

Barton Sutter, Duluth’s poet laureate, teaches at the University of Wisconsin at Superior. His most recent book of poetry is Farewell to the Starlight in Whiskey. Two of Bart’s other books, Cold Comfort and My Father’s War, have been published by the University of Minnesota Press.

Sacred Games excerpted

NPR has posted an excerpt from Vikram Chandra's second novel Sacred Games. You can also hear him read from the book's opening paragraphs.

It's still early, but this may well be the Bollywood crime potboiler of the year.

The Annointed One

The new selection of the Oprah Book Club has been announced. It's The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobigraphy by Sidney Poitier. We have copies in stock. Don't miss out. Oprah has spoken. Hop to it.
