Cold Weather, Warm Books

For many of us in this great state of ours, winter means hunkering down, starting a fire, drinking some wine, baking some pies and eating comfort food.

Luckily we have some wonderful, enticing books to get you started on your winter hibernation.

Who doesn't love a good crock pot dinner? Over 320 recipes to get you going.

Baked chicken and potatoes? That's a good start. What's next?

You've hit the orchards, right? The Farmer's Markets? You should have plenty of apples to use when discovering these delicious new recipes.

Want to try a little bit of everything? Try this one out.

And we can't forget all those Pumpkins. Only one more week until Halloween!

All of these great books are here on our shelves, along with many more. Stop on in and get some ideas of how to warm your belly for the upcoming winter season.

A Music Fan Must Have

The Carter Family: Don't Forget This Song

This came across my path and I stopped cold.

How could I pass it up?

A Graphic Novel about the Carter Family.

The Wildwood Chronicles

If you are a fan of adventurous fiction filled with sassy kids and crazy battles in other worlds, you would be a fan of Wildwood by Colin Meloy. Or perhaps you just think it's cool reading a book by a rock star. (he is the lead singer of The Decemberists, you know). Or maybe both suits  you.

Whatever the reason may be to bring your attention to this fine book and its sequel, Under  Wildwood, I don't care. Just read them! They are delightful! Illustrated by Meloy's wife, Carson Ellis, you are taken to places that are vivid and imaginative.

Aren't the covers wonderful?

Carson Ellis and Colin Meloy

They even made our window display in a feeble attempt to win a contest they had going on the Wildwood blog for booksellers. Check it out here. After terrifying myself hanging a bunch of crows from very high ceiling rods, I accepted the fact that the prize may not be mine but atleast the books will get some added attention.

Just Hanging around

Today we had some unique visitors.

Photographer, Jordan Matter stopped by with some amazing women dancers and took some promotional shots for his upcoming book, Dancers Among Us. (due out November 2012)

 The photographer himself in action.

We were all just a little bit in awe.

Don't try this at home.

Or at our store.
Leave it up to these professionals.
